Godly Truths

But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.

Today’s Truth

Let Your Yes Be Yes

Matthew 5:37 · World English Bible

You have a flexibility problem. You say yes to buy time. You say maybe to keep a door open you have no intention of walking through. You hedge so no one can accuse you of failing a promise you never quite made. Jesus is not impressed with the extra words. Let your yes be yes and your no be no.

Integrity at this level is almost boring. Show up when you said you would. Decline when you cannot. Stop managing people's impressions of your availability. The man whose word is soft will eventually be left out of the rooms that matter, and he will not understand why.

Someone is waiting on an answer you have already decided. Say it plainly. A clean no is holier than a warm, dishonest maybe.

Today’s Challenge

Send one overdue yes or no today, in writing, without a paragraph of excuses.

Pray

Jesus, make my word clean. Forgive the half-promises. Give me the courage to say yes and no as if You were listening, because You are. Amen.
