The Men You Keep
Proverbs 27:17 · World English Bible
Most of your friendships are built on convenience and a shared joke. That is not nothing. It is also not formation. Iron does not sharpen iron by sitting in the same room and talking about the game. Metal changes metal under pressure, heat, and repeated contact.
Look at the last month. Who asked you a question you did not want to answer? Who noticed the slide before you named it? If the honest answer is no one, you do not have a circle. You have an audience. A man can spend years surrounded and still never be known, and the cost shows up later as a secret that finally gets out.
You do not need twelve deep friends. You need two or three men who will tell you the truth and stay in the room after they say it. That kind of friendship is a decision, not a vibe. It will feel awkward at first. Awkward is the sound of iron meeting iron.
Today’s Challenge
Text one man and ask him a real question: how are you actually doing? Then wait for the answer.
Pray
Lord, I have settled for company when I needed brothers. Send me men who will sharpen me, and make me the kind of friend who does not flinch from the truth. Amen.
