Easy Company Will Not Heal You

The group text is still going. Someone sent a video. You almost typed the real thing, then you set the phone face down on the bench and went back to a bolt you had already tightened. You lied to a man who would have helped you, and you have been letting his calls ring out. These men know how you take your coffee. They do not know that. You laughed at the video anyway. Easy company asks nothing, and you have been glad.

James will not call that friendship. He sets confession and prayer side by side, and he ties both to healing. Your instinct is to keep the lie inside the truck, where nobody from the group text can use it. The men who only want you laughing at a video will not sharpen you. They will help you stay a half-step out of reach. You tell one brother the offense, and he prays. That is the friendship this text is after.

Some of them will not want the real sentence. You already know which ones. They will change the subject, or they will hold what you said until they need a joke. Let them go. The cost is the easy hour, and the mercy is one man who hears the lie and does not flinch, then prays your name before he gets off the phone. The Lord is not ashamed that you needed a brother for this. Healing was never something you finish alone with the radio up and the calls still unanswered.
